I have set myself the impossible task of photographing Japan. Having visited nine times over the last eight years I am completely fascinated by the many opposites that the country presents – punks with mohawks text messaging so as not to be rude on crowded trains, delicate paper shoji screen walls in ancient buildings, iced noodles beside hot soups, bamboo sōzu fountains breaking the silence of zen gardens, death metal concerts starting and finishing exactly on time with the hushed orderly exit of thousands of fans.
I find the space between these elements to be the most interesting and that is what I find myself continually returning to try and capture. An impossible task...
